this is one of my favourite ROM acquisitions from the past year. the suit was designed by canadian swimsuit legend rose marie reid. reid became famous for using water resistant materials to create modern, comfortable swimsuits - as opposed to heavy wool. the textile was designed by another canadian, marianne mccrea mcclain. it features traditional canadian iconography: totem poles, maple leaves, teepees and canoes. it is so forties fab !

rachel whiteread is my absolute favourite artist. although her work is aesthetically very contemporary, she works with universal themes, allowing her art to resonate deep within a wide audience. many of her pieces work with the negative and unused spaces of cast architectural dwellings and domestic objects. she touches upon the ordinary objects and locations we often pass by without thought in our daily lives. rachel's spaces conjure the thought of what is missing, invoking feelings of loss and memories past. i chose these pieces because they are pretty, but there is so much more to them. you should probably watch the video below - it features her most well known piece.

joni mitchell rocks and she sometimes goes unnoticed as a fashion icon. she has such an effortless, individual look about her that so many contemporary fashion magazines and designers try to emulate, (especially in the summer months) but it always seems to look so contrived. i love everything about her. currently on repeat....
